Recipients of the ECOCAMPING Award
ECOCAMPING e.V. is the holder of the ECOCAMPING award. To award the prize, the association has set up its own certification body, whose management makes decisions independently of any external guidance, in accordance with internal certification regulations.
- This organisational independence is ensured by the following mechanisms:
The management of the certification body is free from external instructions on all matters relating to certification and is not bound by directives from the Executive Board, members or supporting members.
An independent advisory board monitors compliance with internal procedural rules and the impartiality of the certification system.
Conflicts of interest involving individual decision-makers are documented and ruled out in accordance with established internal rules..
ECOCAMPING Standard Development
The ECOCAMPING criteria, according to which campsites are awarded certification, are not determined by the association alone, but are developed and regularly updated through a structured multi-stakeholder process involving environmental organisations, industry associations, subject matter experts and government bodies. The independent ECOCAMPING Committee oversees this development process and ensures that the criteria reflect the current state of environmental and quality requirements. The current set of criteria can be viewed here.
The ECOCAMPING standard has been further developed several times since 2000: from an individual environmental management approach, through an initial set of criteria (2022), to the current, revised set of criteria (2026).
